Sue and I kind of noticed this some months ago. I wonder why they cancelled it.
Though it's likely they either had outgrown the convention center, or couldn't get it again because there were too many complaints.
In any case, there are other anime conventions around, likely there will be more near you guys. Possibly Sue and I will be going to one closer to us, as Canada is quite far a drive for me and I don't like crossing the border.
Btw, how has everyone been? Aside from the occasional post from Ben there's like nobody here anymore.

yeah, the 2 main reasons for the cancel this year is 1) a problem with staffing and 2) Lack of a good location. The place last year is the 2nd biggest one in Ottawa. Though there was a lot of complaints about the location. 1) it was a 20 minute walk to the nearest fast food place on an open road with no sidewalk in one of the most dangerous parts of Ottawa. 2) the place had a no outside food policy. 3) the cafe closed at 7:00pm. 4) the hotel staff couldn't fallow directions (they were the reason the masquerade was delayed. 5) they interfered with some of the programs running in the cafe. 6) they had a 2:00am curfew so all the stuff scheduled to continue from 2:00am to 6:00am was canceled.
The 2 closest conventions I know of is animenorth in Toronto and Otakuthon in Montreal.
To make up for this AC3's parent company S.O.A.P is planning a bunch of smaller events around the city throughout the year. The first one was on the last Friday of march break at Algonquin college to celebrate S.O.A.P's birthday. So check the S.O.A.P forum for upcoming events.
And S.O.A.P plans to bring AC3 back in 2009.
Oh and for the record the only place in Ottawa bigger then where they were last year is the scotiabank place. Which is the home hockey arena for the Ottawa Senators. So it is too expensive to book, doesn't have a good layout for this type of event and if any hockey game is booked for that weekend then the hockey game has higher priority.

Battosai- 11-26-2008
yeah, the people from SOAP were special guests at the closing ceremony of Naru2u and confirmed that AC3 will be back in 2009 with Naru2u looking for a time slot in the summer that doesn't conflict with Otakuthon in Montreal.
pirate13- 11-27-2008
summer might be cool. maybe more people will go
Battosai- 11-27-2008
yeah, though we need to think more about what we cosplay as so we don't overheat and die.
